Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need this building?

1. So All Generations can WORSHIP.

We will build a 1,100 seat sanctuary designed to be the central and final worship center on our campus. This building will define our campus and church life for generations to come, a constant reminder of the centrality of worship.

Faith Presbyterian currently feels like the crowded room where Jesus was teaching and the only way to get a paralyzed man close to Jesus was to cut a hole in the ceiling and lower him down. We need to make room so others can experience the life-changing power of the gospel.

2. So All Generations can GROW.

The new building will feature a completely new area for children’s and nursery ministries more than double the size of our current space. Every generation on our campus from infants to adults will have more space for discipleship opportunities.

3. So All Generations can FELLOWSHIP.

Our church has never had a space specifically designed for fellowship gatherings. We will renovate our existing sanctuary into a permanent fellowship hall to host activities for all generations. Our new building will also feature an oversized foyer which will serve as a central welcome space and an intersection from which all parts of the campus can be easily accessed.

Why is the project called All Generations?

Because we want All Generations to hear the good news of the Gospel. Our hope is that the All Generations campaign will position Faith Presbyterian Church to preach this good news and welcome needy sinners for generations to come.

Can we expand our giving beyond what is currently given?

We have every reason to expect that we can: since the Share Faith Campaign in 2019 our annal giving has grown at least 20% each year to total over 130% growth over five years. Our membership is growing, we have healthy cash reserves, good spirit at FPC, unity in leadership, healthy growth, and stable and experienced staff leadership.

The total project estimate is at least $25MM. What if we don’t raise that much?

We will borrow what we don’t raise. We appointed a Finance Team in 2023 to interview possible lenders and were pleased with the interest from banks in the project.

What are the next steps after pledge Sunday?

Our Finance Team will take our pledge information to potential lenders. Our denomination’s Book of Church Order and our bylaws require that the congregation give approval before we borrow money.

How did we arrive at the cost and scope of the project?

  • We’ve been working on this plan for almost three years. We looked at the growth of the church in recent years, the available land remaining on our property, and our projected growth/needs over the next 5-10 years.
  • After hearing from the congregation in our What’s Next Meetings in 2022, we set out to build a sanctuary that would last for generations.
  • Building a sanctuary without supporting ministry space (children’s, nursery, KC, etc.) would only create more space issues for us on Sunday morning.
  • We determined that the wisest and most cost-effective way forward was to build both a sanctuary and supporting ministry space.

Will the campaign have a negative effect on funding for the annual budget?

We expect that it will not.  Church campaign studies show that building campaigns typically have a positive effect on overall church budget. We’ve tried to anticipate future debt service in such a way that it will not negatively impact our annual ministry budget.

How will the funds be used?

  • 100% of funds given will go toward the All Generations project – both hard costs (construction) and soft costs (engineering, furniture, expenses for capital campaign, architect)
  • About 90% is for hard cost
  • 10% for soft costs

When can we expect construction to begin and how long will it take to complete?

We hope to break ground in June 2024 and we think it will take 18 months to complete.

What guardrails are in place to ensure that we don’t overextend ourselves? Have we planned for problems?

We have a contingency fee in the total costs.  We selected a contractor early in the project and are working with them every step along the way to make sure that we have a good idea of costs and that the scope doesn’t creep during construction.

Have we been able to reduce our indebtedness? What is our indebtedness currently?

We’ve continued to pay down our current to $1.1MM. The debt is 10-year note amortized over 20 years at 3.85%.  The note is due in September 2029.

What is the stance of our leaders regarding debt, biblically and philosophically?

  • We think it is a matter of wisdom. There are valid reasons to take on debt, but many times we take on debt foolishly.
  • We think taking on debt for Phase 1 (2003) and Phase 3 (2019) were needed and necessary for the growth of our church. Our decision to go into debt for these two phases has been proven out as we have experienced great growth in the past four years.
  • With a growing church, we want to anticipate needs and not always react to them.

What is the best way to give?

  • The earlier in the campaign the less we would have to borrow for construction financing.
  • We can receive appreciated stock and can consider more complex gifts.
  • We can receive online gifts.

When will I be giving?

We will have a 4-year campaign starting in February 2024 and ending in December 2027.

Can I give appreciated stock or property or donate through a charitable trust?

Yes! In many cases, this is the most tax-advantaged way to give. We have accounts and relationships with several foundations and organizations which can process complex charitable gifts.
